Here is 12 SEO tips that will help you tackle your e-commerce site. With the right Search Engine Optimization you can rank higher in search engine like Google.com, Bing.com, Yahoo.com and Ask.com. Ultimately getting more visitors, customers and sales for your online store. Many of these SEO tips apply to just about any type of website, as well. Hope you enjoy the read!
Creating unique content will set you apart from existing websites. Create content that is unique to each of your products with proper “Title Tags” and “Meta Tags”. Make sure you create supporting pages using “Category Pages”. Giving search engines a chance to understand all of your pages.
SEO Tip #2 Keyword Research: What shoppers are actually searching for?
SEO Tip #3: Create “Pages for Categories” people are searching for.
Build pages for your categories around keywords that that people are actually searching for. Don’t waste time creating pages and categories around keywords nobody is searching for. Do your “Keyword Research”!
SEO Tip #4: Internal Link Structure using good anchor text and Keywords.
Creating a good “Internal Link Structure” is so important. This gives search engines and visitors a chance to understand where your new pages are and most important what your product pages are about. Start with interlinking all product pages and category pages. Use “Anchor Text” that include your keywords!
SEO Tip #5: Make it Easy! Let others share your products on social media sites.
Make it easy for visitors to share your products and your website with friends and associates. Just adding a simple share button to your site can generate tons of new traffic. You never know when the right visitor will share your valuable content and products.
SEO Tip #6: Get valuable backlinks.
Getting valuable backlinks to a website can be the deal breaker. But don’t forget to get backlinks to your product and category pages. So many times all the effort is placed on getting backlinks to just your home page. This is Bad! Make sure you get backlinks to your internal pages.
SEO Tip #7: Avoid duplicate content issues.
Duplicate content issues are becoming more and more important. Exspecialy with the latest Google updates like the infamous “Panda Update“. Google does not have a “Duplicate Content Penalty”. Google does have a “Duplicate Content Filter”. So make sure each of your pages and category pages have original content that is unique to your products.
SEO Tip #8: Use descriptive URLs.
This goes back to your “Internal Link Structure”. Using descriptive URLs that contain your keywords that you want to rank for. Make it easy for search engines to understand your URLs by using your keywords in the URLs.
SEO Tip #9: Let visitors leave reviews.
Let your website visitors engage your website by allowing them to leave reviews about your products and website. “Real Reviews” by “Real People” can make a huge difference for potential customers who are on the fence about a purchase.
SEO Tip #10: Include a sitemaps to help Google find all your pages.
Make sure you make it easy for Google.com, Bing.com, Yahoo.com and other search engines to understand where they can find your product pages and category pages. There are two different types of “Site Maps”. One Site Map is a called an “XML Sitemap” and the other is a “Website Sitemap”. Make sure you have both!
SEO Tip #11: Update your website content regularly.
Updating your website content on a regular basis can bait “Search Engine Spider Bots” into coming to your website on a regular basis and indexing your product pages. Every time your product pages get index, you have a new chance of driving a new visitor to your website. “New Visitors = New Customers”!
SEO Tip #12: Add Optimize Photos to every product.
Don’t just add another “Product Photo”! Optimize your photos! This is a great way for your website to be “508 Compliant“. If you don’t know what “508 Compliant” is, I recommend you learn. All of your Product Photo’s should be optimized to the hill. Take the time to use “alt text” to describe your photos and of course don’t forget to use your keywords.
